Meteorologist Michael J. Frank
Hello, my name is Mike and I'm a graduate of Stony Brook Universities Atmospheric and Oceanic Science major. The curriculum satisfied all of the coursework recommended by the American Meteorological Society for undergraduate training in meteorology and all the coursework required by NOAA for certification as an entry-level government meteorologist. Thus, my education has provided me with a strong scientific and mathematical background.
As a life long resident of New York State, I am very appreciative of its natural beauty. Although it is my personal mission to conserve all the worlds natural resorces. I'm also well aware of the effects of pollution on human health and the ecosystem as a whole. I also understand the importance of collecting accurate and precise data from the viewpoint of conducting experiments that simulate reality.
The Stony Brook Curriculum required four levels of calculus, three levels of classical physics, two levels of chemistry, and many other departmental classes. I have experience specifically related to water and air quality as part of my Air Pollution, Ocean Physics, and Coastal Oceanography courses. The meteorology courses that I took applied a deep theoretical base in such subjects as calculus, differential thermodynamics, and dynamics to data acquired from various sources. I have experience using complex automated computer tools and databases, such as AutoCad, the United States Geological Survey databases, and Erdas Imagine Remote Sensing application. I also have experience in Matlab, Java, C, and some assembly programming. I am knowledgeable about the fundamentals of weather forecast models, and how to apply the human element to correct the biases embedded within them. I am also familiar with how to examine surface analyses, mesoscale analyses, upper air maps, radiosonde soundings, radar data, and model output statistics.
My work as a lifeguard, and achievement of Eagle Scout, has provided me with good leadership experience, and I can work well in a team. Throughout my studies in meteorology, I have also developed excellent communication skills and can present myself well. Much of my coursework has required projects that needed to be carried out with accuracy and efficiency, and I would be glad to apply that knowledge anywhere.
I consider myself a well rounded individual with an assortment of many different skills and hobbies. Some of my other interests include health, law, politics, agriculture, architecture, engineering, fine wines, craft beers, fashion, cars, history, dogs, and current events.
Thank you!
Current Goal:I am Currently studying the GRE mathematics subject test, and the general GRE. I am doing this with the hope that I may someday become a Math Educator.
